Product Description With its denser, thicker form, unparalleled comfort and cushioning, superior non-slip fabric finish, and simple, elegant design, the Manduka® Black Mat® PRO will revolutionize your practice. It comfortably cushions your spine, hips, knees, and elbows on hard floors, while providing stability on hard or soft surfaces. It is slip resistant, yet non-sticky, even when wet from light perspiration.
Amazon.com One of the most durable yoga mats available, Manduka's black mat is made from high-performance material designed to endure a lifetime of yoga practice. The mat has a specific top and bottom surface. The top's sticky surface keeps feet firmly rooted during balancing poses, such as Warrior or Downward Facing Dog. The bottom side remains stable on hard floors or carpet, and won't shift or bunch up during movement. The mat's 1/4-inch thickness provides superior cushioning for the spine, hips, knees, and elbows during restful postures like Child's pose. For safe practicing, the mat's surface remains slip-free even when wet with perspiration. Measuring 71 inches long and 26 inches wide, the mat is long enough for taller yoga practitioners. Though its 6-1/2-pound weight makes it a little heavier than other yoga mats, with more weight, comes noticeably more comfort. --Cristina Vaamonde

Great Cushion September 7, 2010 pragmatic_insanities I agree with the many reviews that say that the mat is slippery when wet. I solve this by wearing yogitoes or yogipaws. While I also agree that for the money the it would be nice to have a mat with great traction it is still a five star purchase because of the cushioning. I have had knee problems for a long time and this is the only mat I have found that allows me to do asanas such as pigeon pose with comfort. I have bought 1/4" mats before, but they gave under the pressure of my body weight. The manduka mat has absolutely no give. So while I would love for the traction to be better, the comfort on my knees is completely worth the money.
best yoga mat ever!!!!! August 25, 2010 pilates instructor this is my 2nd manduka black pro mat. i have been a pilates teacher for over 15 years, i would never use anything else!
Buyer's Remorse August 5, 2010 Lisssa I can't take it anymore! I slip all over the place and it's getting dangerous. I've used the mat for 12 classes and have washed it twice. I also lay it in high traffic areas with hopes this will help break it in.
When it's sticky, it's too sticky. I felt like my flesh on my toes was going to rip off when transitioning to up dog. When it's slippery, I can hold nothing! Like others have mentioned, I felt like I was practicing on an ice rink. It did teach me to be very precise and controlled with each transition because I was so afraid of hurting myself or others. So, this is a plus. It also stays in one place and NEVER wrinkles during my practice. Although, at the end of the day. I've decided to cut my loses and move on to another brand. It's just not worth the added stress.
Sorry!
Great Mat-Same as P90X "Plyometrics" Mat July 22, 2010 AnnaB This is a great mat not only for yoga but also higher impact workouts. I bought two so that my husband and I could both use one when working out together. The first one I bought from Beachbody for the plyometrics workout. This is the second one I bought, this time from Amazon, and it is identical (and of course cheaper). Be sure to follow instructions for getting the initial slippery coating off and it will work great for you.
Manduka - the best July 6, 2010 KStimac If you're just starting yoga, start with a regular mat, but if you're committed, you'll want this product. Best yoga mat I've found on the market. A lot more firm, set responsive to kneeling and standing. Better grip, once you're using it, you'll never go back.
