Power yoga "demands your attention," says instructor Rodney Yee. He leads a challenging, constantly progressing series of poses, one flowing into the next, integrating breath, movement, tension, and relaxation. The poses include Sun Salutation, standing poses, forward bends, back bends, twists, and arm balances. The first poses are fairly easy, and with each repetition of the series, Yee adds on more difficult movements, extending the series without pausing. You're encouraged to do as much of the series that fits your level, up to the entire 65-minute workout if you're an experienced yoga practitioner. Although you can begin at any level, some familiarity with yoga is recommended. The Hawaiian setting is gorgeous and inspiring. This is an excellent yoga workout that you can grow with, adding on more as you get stronger. --Joan Price

3 out of 5 stars Repetetive   March 15, 2010

I found this DVD to be quite repetitive and lacking in diversity, although I was sweating by the end. Wouldn't do it again though.

4 out of 5 stars good enough   March 11, 2010

I did not find this strenuous enough, and I have only practiced yoga sporadically. He does not hold positions long enough. However, it's good enough, my muscles were sore, and you can always use this to learn yoga and then maybe pause the dvd to hold the poses longer.

4 out of 5 stars good workout   March 7, 2010

I started doing yoga at home this winter. I was looking for a thorough workout that would challenge my body and keep me in shape. I am a very fit woman (exercise 5 times per week), so I find most yoga is not enough of a workout. I use this video at least once a week and I love it. My muscles always feel tired the next day. It seems that the more I use it, the deeper I am able to go into the poses and the more challenging the workout becomes. The video has 30 min of standing poses that really work the quads, hamstrings and gluts. Also, there are about 15-20 plank to push-up transitions (great for arm, chest, back). The rest of the exercise is floor and stretching. This is where things get a bit slow and boring for me, especially the last 15 min. The instructions are clear and no nonsense. No new-agey hooey either.

5 out of 5 stars Great flow yoga video   March 5, 2010

I needed to add some variety to my yoga routines at home. I am by no means an "expert" at yoga. However, I have practiced off and on for a while. It is really useful to have some knowledge of poses prior to experiencing this dvd as they do not go into great detail on the actual pose. Also, since Yee is the only person on the video, there are no modifications for those who are at a lower flexibility level. If you need beginner instruction or need to see modifications to fit your yoga level, then I would suggest a different video such as Bryan Kest. However, if you are looking at adding to your yoga routine, this video is great. The scenery is beautiful and the verbal instructions are perfect if you are experienced with poses - I am able to complete the routine without looking at the video. This is vital for some of the more difficult balance poses. Great video.

More advanced but is really good. When you are done, every muscle has been worked and the stress is gone!
